Siegel 2018: Cancer statistics, 2018

Siegel and colleagues projected 1,735,350 new cancer cases and 609,640 cancer deaths in the United States for 2018. The cancer death rate had fallen 26% from its 1991 peak to 2015, which the authors translated into about 2.4 million fewer cancer deaths than if rates had stayed at the peak. The report documented declining incidence in men, stable incidence in women, and a narrowing racial gap in mortality, while flagging rising incidence of liver cancer and of colorectal cancer in younger adults.
