Alastair Greystoke

Alastair Greystoke is Professor of Precision Oncology at Newcastle University and a consultant at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, one of four consultants running the Sir Bobby Robson Early Clinical Trials Centre at the Freeman Hospital. He joined Newcastle in 2014 after eight years in Manchester and The Christie, leads systemic therapy research for non-small-cell lung cancer in the north east across a phase 1 to phase 4 portfolio, and leads the pharmacodynamic biomarker team at the Newcastle University Cancer Centre.

He is clinical director for cancer for the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service and led the NHS England pilot that assessed the cost-effectiveness of cell-free DNA testing in advanced lung cancer, the work that lies behind the National Cancer Plan's statement that a circulating tumour DNA test returns a result on average 16 days faster than a tissue biopsy and was added to the National Genomic Test Directory in May 2025. He is joint chief investigator of CONCORDE, the Bayesian adaptive platform testing DNA damage response inhibitors alongside radical radiotherapy.
