Used ctDNA to show how colorectal cancers evolve resistance to EGFR antibodies and how that resistance can fade.
Overview
Alberto Bardelli led the 2012 Nature study showing that KRAS mutations emerge in the blood of colorectal cancer patients months before radiological progression on cetuximab or panitumumab, one of the first demonstrations of liquid biopsy for tracking resistance, and later showed these clones decay when anti-EGFR therapy is stopped, the basis for rechallenge strategies. His laboratory also showed that mismatch repair inactivation increases immunotherapy sensitivity.
