Overview
Hitoshi Ishikawa is Director of QST Hospital, the clinical arm of Japan's National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology and a centre for carbon ion radiotherapy, a role he has held since April 2024. In his director's message he prioritises validating heavy ion therapy across cancers and extending Japanese insurance coverage, the Quantum Scalpel project to build compact multi-ion accelerators with clinical use planned from 2028, and translating QST research such as radioisotope therapy and PET imaging into practice. The hospital also serves as a designated advanced medical facility for Chiba Prefecture.
