Medical oncologist who has led the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala, East Africa's principal cancer research and treatment centre.
Overview
Dr. Jackson Orem is Director of the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) in Kampala, Uganda's national cancer centre and a regional centre of excellence for East Africa. His research, much of it through the UCI-Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center collaboration, has focused on infection-associated malignancies such as Burkitt lymphoma and Kaposi sarcoma in sub-Saharan Africa. He has been a prominent voice on cancer care capacity in low- and middle-income countries.
