Sherry Lansing, the first woman to run a major Hollywood studio, co-founded Stand Up To Cancer in 2008 with Katie Couric, Kathleen Lobb, Lisa Paulsen, Rusty Robertson, Sue Schwartz, Pamela Oas Williams and Ellen Ziffren, after leaving Paramount to work on cancer through the Sherry Lansing Foundation. SU2C's inaugural televised special aired simultaneously on ABC, CBS and NBC. Its own account states that over $800 million has been pledged to its research portfolio and that it has funded more than 3,100 researchers through Dream Teams that must span institutions and share data. SU2C credits research it funded with contributing to approvals including tisagenlecleucel CAR-T therapy, palbociclib with letrozole in breast cancer, olaparib in prostate cancer, alpelisib with fulvestrant, and encorafenib with cetuximab in colorectal cancer. Its model, entertainment money attached to enforced collaboration, has been copied in other diseases.
