PET/MRI
PET combined with MRI instead of CT, giving biology plus the best soft-tissue detail, at lower radiation dose.
Valuable in paediatrics, brain tumours, prostate, and pelvic cancers. Limited by cost and scanner availability; attenuation correction is harder than with CT.
How it works
PET and MRI are acquired simultaneously or sequentially with MR-compatible detectors.
- Lower radiation
- Superior soft tissue
- Expensive, few scanners
- Long acquisition
