EU-TIRADS is the European Thyroid Association's version of a thyroid nodule ultrasound score, sorting nodules into benign, low, intermediate and high risk to decide which need a needle biopsy.
The European Thyroid Association's 2017 guideline (Russ and colleagues, European Thyroid Journal) built EU-TIRADS from the literature and the American (AACE and ATA) and Korean guidelines. It has an ultrasound lexicon, a standard report, definitions of benign, low-, intermediate- and high-risk nodules with the estimated risk of cancer in each, and indications for fine-needle aspiration. Its stated aims are reproducible descriptions between readers and simpler communication of results.
