K-TIRADS is the Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology's thyroid nodule ultrasound score, revised in 2021 to biopsy fewer benign nodules while still finding cancers in small nodules.
The Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology published recommendations in 2011, revised them in 2016, and revised the Korean Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System again in 2021 (Ha and colleagues, Korean Journal of Radiology). The revision covers the ultrasound lexicon, biopsy criteria, ultrasound signs of spread outside the thyroid, the CT protocol and follow-up before and after biopsy. The biopsy criteria were changed to reduce unnecessary biopsies of benign nodules while keeping sensitivity for cancer in nodules of 1 to 2 cm. The paper places the revision against a 20-year rise in diagnoses of low-risk papillary thyroid cancer.
