NICE NG131 asks for it to be estimated from at least three measurements over at least six months when the PSA rises after treatment, and uses a doubling time of less than three months as one of the three reasons to start hormone therapy for a biochemical relapse. The speed carries more information than the number itself, which is why a single raised reading is not treated as an event.
