RELIANCE
The trial that made relma-cel the first CAR-T developed and manufactured in China to be approved, with three quarters of patients responding.
Overview
59 patients treated (Cancer Medicine 2021): objective response 75.9%, complete response 51.7%, with grade 3 or higher cytokine release syndrome in about 5% and neurotoxicity in about 3%, a favourable profile consistent with the 4-1BB construct shared with lisocabtagene maraleucel. Basis of NMPA approval in September 2021.
- 75.9 out of 100 people had their tumour shrink with Relma-cel (both dose levels).
- There was no comparison group, so this number cannot tell you how much of the effect is due to the treatment.
- A response rate counts how many people had their tumours shrink by a set amount; shrinking is encouraging but does not by itself show that people live longer or feel better.
- These results apply to the people the trial enrolled: Relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma after two or more lines, China: single-arm pivotal study of relmacabtagene autoleucel at two dose levels. People in a different situation may not see the same effect.
- Only 59 people took part, so the numbers are less certain than in a large trial.
Numbers are from the trial as recorded here; see the source links in the table below. This is orientation, not medical advice: ask your team how closely the trial population matches you.
