A core facility at Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands that stores samples for the hospital's research studies, from cancer trials to multiple sclerosis research, under common ethical and quality rules.
Amsterdam UMC Biobank was established in 2014 to support researchers in setting up biobanks that meet current ethical and quality standards. As one of Amsterdam UMC's core facilities it provides storage for biological materials (tissues, cells, sera, plasma, liquor, urine, faeces, DNA and RNA), logistics and data management, and runs the central ultra-low-temperature freezer sites. The directory lists 214 collections, most attached to individual studies; cancer-related examples read on 4 November 2026 include a haemato-oncology collection (480 samples from 30 donors) and one from a trial of single-dose preoperative partial breast irradiation in low-risk breast cancer (2,063 samples from 21 donors).
