The merged Amsterdam university hospitals (AMC and VUmc), whose Cancer Center Amsterdam is one of the largest academic cancer research programmes in the Netherlands.
Overview
Amsterdam UMC was formed by the 2018 merger of the Academic Medical Center (University of Amsterdam) and VU University Medical Center (Vrije Universiteit). Cancer Center Amsterdam is its research and care institute for oncology, spanning medical oncology, haematology, radiotherapy, surgical oncology and imaging on two campuses. Strengths include pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery, colorectal cancer biology and organoids, lymphoma and leukaemia, imaging and radiotherapy, and cancer immunology, and the centre works alongside the Netherlands Cancer Institute within the Amsterdam cancer ecosystem.
