BrightPath Biotherapeutics is a Japanese company making ready-made immune cell therapies grown from stem cells. Its lead product, BP2202, uses engineered natural killer T cells aimed at the BCMA protein on myeloma cells and is in a first US trial for myeloma that has returned or stopped responding.
BrightPath Biotherapeutics Co., Ltd. (Japanese name ブライトパス・バイオ), headquartered in Kojimachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, with research laboratories at the Life Innovation Center in Kawasaki, was established on 8 May 2003 in Kurume, Fukuoka, according to the company, and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market in October 2015; it took its present name in July 2017. Earlier work centred on cancer peptide vaccines (ITK-1 in castration-resistant prostate cancer and GRN-1201). Its current platform is iPS-NKT: allogeneic, off-the-shelf natural killer T cells regenerated from a master iPS cell bank. BP2202 is a BCMA-targeted CAR-iNKT cell therapy derived from iPS cells, granted FDA orphan drug designation for multiple myeloma in July 2025; a US open-label, multicentre, dose-escalation phase 1 study in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma is registered (NCT07667868). The pipeline also lists HER2-targeted CAR-iNKT cells and antibody programmes. Its first registered cancer trial under this sponsor name, NCT07667868, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in June 2026.
