Elypta
Elypta measures sugar molecules called glycosaminoglycans in blood and urine to spot kidney cancer returning after surgery, and is testing the same approach to find many cancers early.
Overview
Elypta, based in Solna, Stockholm, has developed a metabolism-based liquid biopsy that profiles the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composition of blood and urine (the GAGome), using its MIRAM kit and machine-learning scores to detect cancer-specific signatures; the company is ISO 13485 certified. Its first application is recurrence monitoring after kidney cancer surgery: the AURORAX programme, described as the largest such study, reached study end in May 2025. A second programme applies GAGome scores to multi-cancer early detection in asymptomatic adults, with interim data suggesting urine GAGs may predict risk of any cancer. Funding includes a EUR 2.35 million Horizon 2020 grant (2019), a EUR 6.1 million late seed led by Industrifonden (2020), a $21 million Series A led by Bonnier Ventures (2022) and a $1 million Roddenberry prize (2023).
