Enlaza Therapeutics
Enlaza Therapeutics engineers protein drugs that lock permanently onto their target once they find it, which could let antibody-based cancer medicines work at lower doses with fewer side effects. Its programmes are still in laboratory development.
Overview
Enlaza Therapeutics (La Jolla, California) is building the first covalent biologic platform. Its War-Lock technology introduces proprietary unnatural amino acids into protein therapeutics so that they bind irreversibly to disease-relevant targets while remaining latent until target engagement, with the aim of improving efficacy and reducing toxicity for antibody-drug conjugates, T-cell engagers and other protein drugs, initially in oncology. The pipeline is preclinical and undisclosed. The company launched in December 2022 with USD 61 million in seed financing led by Avalon Ventures and raised a USD 100 million Series A in April 2024 led by the Life Sciences group of J.P. Morgan Private Capital, with Amgen Ventures and Regeneron Ventures among new investors. In September 2025 it announced a strategic collaboration with Vertex Pharmaceuticals to develop War-Lock drug conjugates and T-cell engagers for conditioning and certain autoimmune diseases.
