Exscientia
Exscientia was a British pioneer in designing drugs with artificial intelligence, including cancer drugs that reached early clinical trials. It has been folded into the US company Recursion.
Overview
Exscientia plc, founded in Oxford, was among the first companies to bring AI-designed small molecules into clinical trials, combining generative chemistry design with automated synthesis and patient-tissue functional screening. Its oncology pipeline included GTAEXS617, a CDK7 inhibitor developed with GT Apeiron, and EXS4318, a PKC-theta inhibitor partnered with Bristol Myers Squibb, together with a large discovery collaboration with Sanofi. The company combined with Recursion Pharmaceuticals in an all-stock transaction in 2024; the exscientia.ai domain now redirects to recursion.com and the former Exscientia programmes are reported within Recursion's pipeline. Deal value and completion date could not be confirmed from a fetched primary source because Recursion's investor relations pages blocked automated access. Recursion itself is already in the graph.
