Gemini Therapeutics
Gemini Therapeutics is a startup with a single purpose: finishing the development of aldoxorubicin, a tumour-targeted form of doxorubicin, founded after the GitLab co-founder Sid Sijbrandij was treated with doxorubicin for osteosarcoma.
Overview
Gemini Therapeutics describes itself as singularly focused on advancing aldoxorubicin by supplying the capital and operational expertise to bring it to patients sooner. Its origin story is Sid Sijbrandij's osteosarcoma diagnosis at the end of 2022 and his treatment with doxorubicin, whose cumulative cardiac toxicity limits how much patients can receive. The company is led by co-founders Diego Rey (chief executive, previously co-founder of GeneWEAVE Biosciences, acquired by Roche, and of Endpoint Health, and the first Y Combinator visiting partner for life sciences) and the sarcoma oncologist Sant Chawla, who led the aldoxorubicin trials, with a team that includes former Doxil and FDA reviewers. At ASCO 2026 it presented integrated analyses of the randomised soft tissue sarcoma studies reporting higher tumour exposure and better cardiac preservation than doxorubicin. Aldoxorubicin is investigational and not approved.
