IntraOp Medical
IntraOp makes the Mobetron, a mobile electron-beam machine that can be wheeled into an operating theatre to give a single, targeted dose of radiation to the tumour bed during cancer surgery, and it is also being used in the first human trials of ultra-fast FLASH radiotherapy.
Overview
IntraOp Medical Corporation manufactures the Mobetron, introduced in 1993 as the first mobile electron linear accelerator for intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT). The self-shielded unit delivers electron beams directly to the tumour bed during surgery, sparing surrounding organs. The company reports more than forty units at leading cancer centres; Salzburg University Hospital treated its 1,000th Mobetron patient in August 2026. IntraOp describes Mobetron as the only electron ultra-high dose rate device approved for FLASH clinical trials. With Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) it supported IMPulse, the first human dose-escalation study of single-fraction FLASH radiotherapy: 15 cutaneous melanoma metastases in 11 patients were treated at 22 to 28 Gy with no dose-limiting toxicities, published in Radiotherapy and Oncology in March 2026. IntraOp is privately held and based in Fremont, California; no funding details were found.
