Leo Cancer Care
Leo Cancer Care builds radiotherapy equipment that treats patients sitting upright instead of lying down, so the beam can stay fixed and the room, machine and building can be far smaller and cheaper.
Overview
Leo Cancer Care designs upright patient positioning and imaging for radiotherapy. Its Marie system rotates a seated patient in front of a fixed horizontal particle beam and includes an upright CT for planning and image guidance, removing the need for a multi-storey rotating gantry and cutting capital cost and shielding for proton and other particle centres. Grace, an upright photon system with fan-beam CT and a fast multileaf-collimator linac, was introduced at ASTRO 2025 and is not yet commercial. Marie received CE marking in May 2026 and has, the company says, already gained clinical momentum in the United States; European installation has begun at CNAO in Italy with treatments planned before the end of 2026. Partners include Mevion, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, IHH Healthcare, Centre Leon Berard and BNCT developers Aviko and Neutron Therapeutics. Offices are in Crawley, England and Middleton, Wisconsin. No funding round could be sourced.
