Overview
Lupin was founded in 1968 by Desh Bandhu Gupta, a chemistry professor, and grew into one of India's largest generics companies with a strong US presence in respiratory, cardiovascular and anti-infective medicines. Oncology is one of the therapy segments of its India formulations business, and its biologics unit (including the YL Biologics joint venture with Japan's Yoshindo, formed in 2014) develops biosimilars. Lupin is representative of the second tier of Indian companies that keep generic cancer drug prices low domestically and supply regulated markets.
