Moonlight AI is a Swiss company whose software looks at routine blood smears and cytology slides and predicts genetic changes that would otherwise need a sequencing test, to help laboratories decide which patients need that test first.
Moonlight AI develops an AI diagnostics platform that uses computer vision on routine images of blood and cytology smears to detect genomic biomarkers and disease signatures, intended to complement and triage next-generation sequencing. The software works with a laboratory's existing imaging hardware and is trained on whole-slide images paired with genomic results; its programmes cover myelodysplastic syndrome, non-small cell lung cancer and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. In May 2026 it closed a USD 3.3 million seed round co-led by Lotus One Investment, VP Venture Partners and MEDIN Fund, with N&V Capital and existing investor QAI Ventures, to grow its paired image and genomic dataset with hospital and laboratory partners. The co-founders are chief executive Christian Ruiz, professor of experimental medicine at the University of Basel, chief technology officer Nicole H. Romano and chief medical officer Stefan Habringer of Charité Berlin.
