Nuclidium is a Swiss company building radioactive medicines around copper instead of the more usual gallium and lutetium: one copper isotope for a scan that finds the cancer, a sister isotope to treat it. Its first programmes are in advanced prostate cancer, neuroendocrine tumours and breast cancer.
Nuclidium is a clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company using copper-61 for PET diagnostics and copper-67 for therapy, with offices in Basel (Nuclidium AG) and Munich (Nuclidium (DE) GmbH). It was founded in 2017 by chief executive Leila Jaafar-Thiel, with Gustav von Schulthess as medical adviser and co-founder. Its pipeline lists NU101, which binds PSMA, for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, and NU201, an SSTR2 antagonist, for gastroenteropancreatic and bronchopulmonary neuroendocrine tumours, metastatic breast cancer and other SSTR-positive tumours, each as a 61Cu diagnostic and a 67Cu therapeutic, plus an undisclosed programme. The company reported positive Phase I/II results for a copper-based PET diagnostic in neuroendocrine tumours in October 2025, and in October 2026 announced the first patient imaged in a Phase 2 study of 61Cu-NU101 in metastatic prostate cancer. It closed a CHF 79 million (EUR 84 million) Series B in July 2025 and an extension in May 2026 that brought the round to CHF 105 million. Partnerships named in its news include Guerbet, PharmaLogic and, in October 2026, NorthStar for copper-67 supply.
