Perimeter Medical Imaging AI
Perimeter makes a scanner that gives surgeons a microscope-level 3D look at the edges of tissue they have just removed during breast cancer surgery, with artificial intelligence flagging suspicious areas, so they can take more tissue immediately rather than bringing the patient back for a second operation.
Overview
Perimeter Medical Imaging AI, established in Toronto in 2013 with US headquarters in Dallas, develops wide-field optical coherence tomography (OCT) for intraoperative margin assessment. Its S-Series OCT has FDA 510(k) clearance under a general tissue-imaging indication. The next-generation Claire received FDA premarket approval in March 2026 as the first AI-enabled imaging device approved in the US for intraoperative breast cancer margin assessment, after Breakthrough Device designation. Claire images excised specimens to 2 mm depth at about ten times the resolution of x-ray or ultrasound, with AI trained on more than two million breast tissue images. The company is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange (PINK) and OTCQX (PYNKF). In 2026 it raised about CAD 7.5 million in a LIFE unit offering plus CAD 6.04 million in convertible debentures to fund the US launch of Claire.
