XACT Robotics
XACT Robotics makes a small robot that attaches to the patient and, using CT scan guidance, inserts and steers a needle to a precise spot inside the body for tumour biopsies and heat-based tumour destruction, adjusting its path as the target moves.
Overview
XACT Robotics Ltd., founded in 2013 with offices in Caesarea, Israel and Hingham, Massachusetts, developed the XACT ACE Robotic System, described as the first hands-free robotic platform combining image-based planning and navigation with instrument insertion and steering for percutaneous procedures. The compact, patient-mounted robot uses proprietary S-Drive technology to adjust the needle path in real time to compensate for tissue and target motion, with reported tip-to-target accuracy under 1.7 mm in a single insertion. Applications span biopsy, ablation, drainage and drug delivery in lung, liver, kidney, lymph node, prostate and adrenal targets. The FDA cleared XACT ACE for CT-guided percutaneous procedures in July 2020 (a first-generation system was cleared the year before), expanded support for ablation in May 2022 and cleared the ACE Xtend remote control unit in October 2022. XACT is privately held; no financing round could be sourced.
Notes
top- Website returns HTTP 403 to curl but loads via WebFetch; the news archive pages did not render, so 2022 clearances are taken from the home page and the 2021 remote procedure from the GlobeNewswire release title only. Funding rounds are known to exist but no release or Form D was found (EDGAR company search returned no filings), so funding is empty and stage defaults to startup. Cancer ids are inferred from listed anatomies (lung, liver, kidney) rather than stated indications.
