IceCure Medical
IceCure Medical makes ProSense, a liquid-nitrogen cryoablation system used to freeze small breast, kidney, lung and bone tumours through a single needle in an outpatient visit; its ICE3 trial tested it as an alternative to surgery for small low-risk breast cancers in older women.
Overview
IceCure Medical, founded in Israel in 2006, designed ProSense around liquid nitrogen rather than argon to reach very low probe temperatures and larger ice balls with a single thin probe, under ultrasound guidance in an office setting. The ICE3 single-arm trial followed women aged sixty and over with small low-risk breast cancers treated by cryoablation instead of lumpectomy, and the company is pursuing a breast cancer indication in the United States on those results while the system is used for kidney, lung, liver and bone tumours.
