Yemaachi collects and sequences cancer samples from across Africa, the most genetically diverse population on earth, so that cancer tests and drugs work for African patients too.
Overview
Yemaachi Biotech, based in Accra, is building a clinical and molecular knowledge base of cancer among African people by collecting and sequencing tumour and germline samples across the continent, then using the data to optimise existing diagnostic tests and to support discovery partners. Its argument is that African genomes are almost absent from the datasets on which cancer diagnostics and drugs were developed. It works with hospitals and research partners in Ghana and elsewhere; products are at the data-generation and validation stage.
