An MRI dye given into a vein for scans of the brain and spine and for imaging blood vessels.
Bracco's MultiHance (NDA 021357, first approved 23 November 2004) is indicated for MRI of the central nervous system "to visualize lesions with abnormal blood-brain barrier or abnormal vascularity of the brain, spine, and associated tissues" and for MR angiography of renal and aorto-ilio-femoral vessels. ATC V08CA08 (gadobenic acid). Like every gadolinium-based contrast agent in the United States, its label carries a boxed warning on the risks of intrathecal use and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, a thickening of skin and organs seen in people with severe kidney disease.
A gadolinium chelate that shortens proton relaxation times and brightens tissue on MRI where it leaks from blood vessels.
