An MRI dye given into a vein for scans of the brain, spine, and head and neck.
Bracco's ProHance (NDA 020131, first approved 16 November 1992) is indicated for MRI to visualise "lesions with disrupted blood brain barrier and/or abnormal vascularity in the brain (intracranial lesions), spine and associated tissues" in adults and children including term neonates, and "lesions in the head and neck in adults". ATC V08CA04. Like every gadolinium-based contrast agent in the United States, its label carries a boxed warning on the risks of intrathecal use and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, a thickening of skin and organs seen in people with severe kidney disease.
