Overview
The American University of Beirut Medical Center is the teaching hospital of the American University of Beirut, founded in 1866, and is accredited by Joint Commission International. Its Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute brings together medical oncology, haematology and bone marrow transplantation, radiation oncology, surgical oncology and paediatric oncology (with the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon, a St. Jude partner), and runs a clinical trials unit that participates in international phase 2 and 3 studies. AUBMC trains oncologists for Lebanon and the wider Arab world and has continued to operate through the country's economic crisis.
