Centre Antoine Lacassagne
Nice's cancer centre and a proton therapy pioneer in France, treating eye melanoma with protons since 1991.
Founded in 1961, the Centre Antoine Lacassagne is the UNICANCER centre for the Côte d'Azur. Its Institut Méditerranéen de Protonthérapie began treating uveal melanoma with the MEDICYC low-energy cyclotron in 1991 and added a high-energy IBA ProteusONE system in 2016, making it one of France's few proton facilities and a reference for ocular and paediatric tumours. Other programmes include head and neck oncology, breast surgery, nuclear medicine and an early-phase unit. Research with the Université Côte d'Azur focuses on radiobiology and medical physics.
