Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center
The only NCI comprehensive cancer centre in Washington, DC, known for breast cancer research including leadership of the CLEOPATRA pertuzumab trial.
NCI-designated since 1974, Georgetown Lombardi is Washington's only comprehensive cancer centre and since 2019 has formed a consortium with Hackensack Meridian's John Theurer Cancer Center in New Jersey. Breast cancer has been its signature: Marc Lippman and Robert Clarke built the hormone-receptor and endocrine-resistance programme, and Sandra Swain led CLEOPATRA, which established pertuzumab plus trastuzumab and docetaxel as first-line therapy for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. Louis Weiner's antibody immunotherapy laboratory and a cancer-prevention and population-science programme focused on the DC region round out the portfolio. Care is delivered at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
