Overview
The Instituto Nacional del Cáncer is Uruguay's public specialised cancer hospital, run by the Administración de los Servicios de Salud del Estado (ASSE) in Montevideo. It provides surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiotherapy, haematology and palliative care as the national referral centre for public-sector patients, hosts the Universidad de la República's oncology training, and works with the Comisión Honoraria de Lucha contra el Cáncer, which runs Uruguay's national cancer registry and screening programmes. Uruguay has among the highest cancer incidence rates in Latin America, and the institute is central to the national cancer control plan.
