Overview
inStem was established in 2009 as an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology and now sits under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council. Its stated focus is cellular therapies for cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disease, using stem cell biology, disease modelling, CRISPR-based gene editing and bioinformatics. It is part of the Bangalore Life Science Cluster with NCBS and C-CAMP, collaborates with CMC Vellore's Centre for Stem Cell Research on haematological gene therapy, and had a budget of about 60.6 crore rupees in 2022-23.
