Rome's national cancer institute, which coordinates Italy's Alliance Against Cancer research network.

The Regina Elena National Cancer Institute, part of the Istituti Fisioterapici Ospitalieri with the San Gallicano dermatological institute, is Rome's IRCCS cancer hospital and coordinates Alleanza Contro il Cancro, the network of Italian oncology research institutes founded in 2002. Under scientific director Gennaro Ciliberto its research groups work on cancer vaccines and immunotherapy, p53 and non-coding RNA biology (Giovanni Blandino), tumour immunology (Paola Nisticò) and translational oncogenomics. Clinical programmes include melanoma and skin cancers, breast, thoracic and gynaecological oncology, robotic surgery, radiotherapy and a phase 1 unit, and the institute runs the Lazio regional oncology network with a large molecular tumour board.
