Weizmann Institute of Science

aka Weizmann Institute, Moross Integrated Cancer Center

Israel's basic research institute, whose HER receptor, p53, single-cell immunology and microbiome discoveries have shaped cancer biology.

Founded in 1934 as the Daniel Sieff Institute, the Weizmann Institute of Science created the Moross Integrated Cancer Center in 2016 to link its cancer groups with clinical partners. Yosef Yarden's work on ErbB/HER receptor signalling and antibody combinations, Moshe Oren and Varda Rotter's on p53, Ido Amit's single-cell immunology of tumour myeloid cells, Eran Elinav's microbiome studies and Yardena Samuels's neoantigen discovery in melanoma are widely cited, and Michael Sela's group's early work on combining anti-EGFR antibodies with chemotherapy underpinned patents relevant to cetuximab. The institute's Yeda technology transfer arm has licensed numerous cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, and its scientists collaborate with Sheba, Rambam and international centres.
