A Danish randomised trial in which a urine RNA test was used to decide when people under bladder cancer follow-up needed a camera examination of the bladder.
1,029 cystoscopies were performed in the control arm and 445 in the intervention arm. The risk difference for high-grade recurrence was 0.08 per cent (95% CI minus 7.2 to 7.4), and two pTa high-grade recurrences were missed.
A urine RNA test cut camera examinations by more than half in this trial, with two missed recurrences.
