In 73 people with breast cancer, a TROP2 PET scan found more cancer deposits than a standard FDG scan, with fewer false alarms, and changed treatment for some.
73 patients with suspected or confirmed breast cancer had both 68Ga-MY6349 and 18F-FDG PET/CT between December 2024 and April 2025. 68Ga-MY6349 found more malignant lesions (564 against 436) and fewer false positives (2 against 40). In 30 initial-staging patients it upgraded stage in 6 (20 per cent) and changed treatment in 4; in 43 restaging patients it changed management in 5 (12 per cent). Overall tumour uptake was higher (median maximum standardised uptake value 5.9 against 4.1, p < 0.001). In three patients with triple-negative breast cancer on sacituzumab tirumotecan, early changes in uptake after two cycles matched the later clinical response; the authors call this preliminary.
A TROP2 scan may help stage breast cancer and, if the early signal holds, judge whether a TROP2 drug is working. It images visible disease, not residual disease after surgery.
