A new PET scan for the TROP2 protein matched what biopsies showed across 15 kinds of cancer, and showed that TROP2 levels vary between one tumour deposit and the next.
A prospective investigator-initiated study enrolled 90 patients with 15 cancer types for 68Ga-MY6349 PET/CT; 78 also had 18F-FDG PET/CT and 12 with prostate cancer had 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT. Tumour uptake was generally high but heterogeneous across lesions, patients and cancer types, and Trop2 expression by immunohistochemistry correlated closely with uptake at primary and metastatic sites. Uptake was higher than with FDG in breast (maximum standardised uptake value 7.2 against 5.4), prostate (9.2 against 3.0) and thyroid cancer (8.5 against 3.7), all p < 0.001.
TROP2 can be mapped across the whole body without a biopsy, and the map shows it is not the same everywhere in one person.
