Carla van Gils
Cancer epidemiologist who co-leads KWF, the Dutch Cancer Society, the Netherlands' largest charitable funder of cancer research.
Overview
Carla van Gils is one of the two bestuurders (executive directors) of KWF Kankerbestrijding, the Dutch Cancer Society, a donor-funded foundation established in 1949 that finances cancer research at universities and institutes across the Netherlands; she leads the organisation jointly with Dorine Manson under a supervisory board chaired by Wiebe Draijer. She is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology of Cancer at UMC Utrecht, where she previously coordinated the cancer research programme of the Julius Center, and joined the KWF executive on 1 June 2021.
