Overview
Katsuhiko Uesaka, MD, PhD, was appointed President of Shizuoka Cancer Center in April 2023, succeeding Ken Yamaguchi. The centre, founded in 2002, is the designated cancer hospital for Shizuoka Prefecture, a Special Functioning Hospital and a Cancer Genomic Medicine Core Hospital, and describes itself as one of the three top cancer centres in Japan by patient numbers. It emphasises multidisciplinary team care, runs Japan's first Supportive Therapy Center and conducts genomic research through Project HOPE, which has analysed tumours from more than 10,000 patients.
