Overview
Priscilla Chan, a paediatrician, and her husband Mark Zuckerberg founded the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in 2015 and the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub in 2016 with UCSF, Stanford and UC Berkeley. The Biohub states its mission as to cure or prevent all disease, and its programmes include programming the immune system for early detection of disease, developing AI models and engineered cells to detect early signs of age-related diseases including cancer, and building tools for molecular-level measurement of inflammation in human tissues. CZI's science funding is deliberately disease-agnostic: cell atlases, imaging, open software and AI models of cells are meant to serve every disease, cancer among them.
