Chan Zuckerberg Biohub
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's network of research institutes building cell atlases, imaging and AI tools that cancer researchers rely on, including the Tabula Sapiens single-cell atlas.
Founded in 2016 in San Francisco as a collaboration of UCSF, Stanford and UC Berkeley, and expanded into a network with Biohubs in Chicago and New York, the CZ Biohub builds technologies for measuring and modelling human biology rather than pursuing single diseases. Its Tabula Sapiens project produced a whole-body single-cell atlas, its imaging and microscopy programmes enable spatial and live-cell measurement, and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's Virtual Cell effort funds AI models of cellular state. Biohub New York engineers immune cells to detect and treat disease, including cancer, while Biohub Chicago builds sensors for inflammation. The Investigator programme funds faculty at the founding universities.
