Scott R. Plotkin
Boston neuro-oncologist who showed that bevacizumab can shrink vestibular schwannomas and restore hearing in people with neurofibromatosis type 2.
Overview
Scott Plotkin is a neuro-oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital who directs its neurofibromatosis centre. He was first author of the 2009 New England Journal of Medicine report showing that the VEGF antibody bevacizumab reduced tumour volume and improved hearing in patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 and progressive vestibular schwannomas, the first medical therapy for these tumours. He leads the Response Evaluation in Neurofibromatosis and Schwannomatosis (REiNS) collaboration.
