Mayo Clinic neuro-oncologist who was lead author of the long-term RTOG 9802 results, which showed that adding PCV chemotherapy to radiotherapy roughly doubles survival in high-risk low-grade glioma.
Overview
Jan Buckner is a medical oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and a long-standing leader of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology neuro-oncology committee. He was first author of the 2016 New England Journal of Medicine report of RTOG 9802, which showed that radiotherapy followed by procarbazine, lomustine and vincristine lengthened median survival from 7.8 to 13.3 years compared with radiotherapy alone in grade 2 glioma patients who were over 40 or had subtotal resection, changing the standard of care.
