Piaoyang Sun turned a small Lianyungang generics factory into Hengrui, China's largest originator drug company and the source of camrelizumab, apatinib and a dozen other approved cancer drugs.
Overview
Sun took over Hengrui in 1990, reinvested heavily in research from the 2000s and returned as chairman in 2021 to steer the company through China's generics price cuts toward innovative drugs and international licensing (Merck KGaA, IDEAYA, GSK) and the 2025 Hong Kong listing.
