The trial that added Hengrui's PD-L1 antibody adebrelimab to chemotherapy for small cell lung cancer, with one of the larger survival gains seen in that disease.
Overview
462 patients, double blind. Median overall survival 15.3 versus 12.8 months (hazard ratio 0.72); two-year survival 31.3% versus 17.2%. NMPA approval March 2023. Together with ASTRUM-005 (serplulimab) it shows Chinese PD-(L)1 antibodies matching or exceeding the IMpower133 and CASPIAN benchmarks in a Chinese population.
- Median 15.3 vs 12.8 months with Adebrelimab + EC compared with Placebo + EC; about 2.5 months longer for half the group.
- A median is a midpoint: half the people did better than this and half did worse, so it is not a prediction for any one person.
- Put another way, the treated group had about 28 percent lower chance of the event at any given time (hazard ratio 0.72).
- Overall survival counts deaths from any cause, so it is the most direct measure of whether a treatment helps people live longer.
- These results apply to the people the trial enrolled: First-line extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, China: adebrelimab or placebo plus carboplatin and etoposide. People in a different situation may not see the same effect.
