Frank Zhang founded GenScript and its cell therapy spin-out Legend Biotech, whose Nanjing team invented the myeloma CAR-T that became Carvykti.
Overview
Zhang founded GenScript in New Jersey in 2002 and moved it to Nanjing; Legend Biotech, spun out in 2014, developed the llama-derived BCMA CAR-T LCAR-B38M (LEGEND-2), partnered it with Janssen in 2017 and listed on Nasdaq in 2020; ciltacabtagene autoleucel was approved by the FDA in 2022 and the NMPA in 2024. He stepped back from executive roles in 2021.
