Comprehensive Cancer Center Mainfranken, University Hospital Würzburg
The university where Röntgen discovered X-rays, now a world centre for CAR-T and bispecific antibodies in multiple myeloma under Hermann Einsele.
Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays at Würzburg in 1895, the founding moment of radiation medicine. Today the CCC Mainfranken is a German Cancer Aid Oncology Center of Excellence and, with Erlangen, Regensburg and Augsburg, one of the National Center for Tumor Diseases sites (NCT WERA) since 2023. Hermann Einsele's Department of Internal Medicine II has been a leading European site for BCMA-directed CAR-T and bispecific antibodies in myeloma, including the CARTITUDE and MajesTEC programmes, and was among the first in Europe to treat patients with these agents. The centre also has strong programmes in stem cell transplantation, neuro-oncology, nuclear medicine and theranostics, and translational immunology.
