The iwCLL guidelines are the international rules for diagnosing chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, deciding when it needs treatment, and judging how well treatment has worked.
The International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia guidelines of 2008 were revised in 2018 (Hallek and colleagues, Blood) in light of the genomic landscape, prognostic genetic tests, minimal residual disease testing and new targeted drugs. The revision includes updated response criteria, the use of MRD status in clinical evaluation, and advice on viral infections. The same guidelines set the indications for starting treatment, which is why many people with CLL are watched without treatment.
